Do you have compassion, patience, friendliness, flexibility, optimism, and a desire to help others? Do you enjoy working one-on-one with people?
If you answered “yes” to the above questions, then consider becoming a volunteer tutor for the Employment Skills Center!
Helping a person improve his or her reading, writing, math or English skills can be very rewarding. Tutors and students come from diverse backgrounds, and the exchange that occurs between them is usually a mutually enriching one. It is often this special relationship with the volunteer tutor that gives the adult learner the opportunity to improve basic skills, develop self-esteem and become a lifelong learner.
A new tutor orientation will be held on Thursday, October 8th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Employment Skills Center. Following the training, each potential tutor will be required to complete a self-paced online tutor training through the Tutors of Literacy in the Commonwealth. For more information or to register for the orientation please contact Linda Barr at 717-243-6040 Ext. 4428 or email@example.com
No prior experience is required, but volunteers must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or currently be pursuing one in accordance with PA Department of Education guidelines.
