The Redevelopment Authority of Cumberland County has secured an EPA grant to provide three sessions of Environmental Technician Training. The FREE classes will be held at Employment Skills Center in Carlisle with select specialized training dates held at HACC’s Harrisburg campus. HACC will provide all technical training and instruction while Employment Skills Center will provide work-readiness instruction, classroom space, and participant support. The project aims to prepare local residents for employment in the redevelopment of Carlisle’s vacant industrial sites (brownfields) and other jobs related to environmental remediation and cleanup throughout Cumberland County.
The first session will be held February 27 through April 28, 2017. The second cohort will begin in July 2017, and the third cohort will begin in March 2018. This program is a unique opportunity to develop job skills, earn credentials, and explore the field of environmental science. Graduates of the program will be prepared for a variety of jobs related to the cleanup of environmentally contaminated sites or for further studies in environmental science.

Several students completed our basic Forklift Training last Friday. Students attended ten hours of workplace skills classes followed by a full day of lift truck safety instruction and certification. Thanks to Kuehne + Nagel for hosting the training and to St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Stabler Foundation for funding this program. Our students will make great additions to any workplace!
