About the Environmental Workforce Development & Job Training (EWDJT) Program:
Brownfields Job Training or EWDJT grants are funded through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide environmental technician training for residents of brownfields communities.
Between 2008 and 2010, three major industrial sites shut down in Carlisle–the IAC (formerly Masland) factory, Carlisle Tire & Wheel, and Tyco. These closures left 63 acres of vacant and contaminated properties in the northwest quadrant of the borough. Carlisle Borough and the Redevelopment Authority of Cumberland County have worked to create a plan to redevelop and revitalize the northwest quadrant of Carlisle. Carlisle Works is an initiative to provide training to residents so they can participate in the redevelopment of their community. Read more about the Carlisle Urban Redevelopment Plan here.
The Redevelopment Authority of Cumberland County (RACC) secured an EWDJT grant from the EPA to provide free Environmental Technician Training to qualified residents. Program partners include RACC; the Borough of Carlisle; HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College; Gaito & Associates; and Employment Skills Center.
