Thank You to all of our sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and especially our race participants who joined us for the 10th Anniversary Carlisle Downtown Mile! Race results can be found here.
This year we are celebrating 10 years of the Carlisle Downtown Mile with race day scheduled for Thursday, August 12, 2021. In addition to the race on August 12th, we will have a virtual component of the race like last year. The Virtual Race will run from August 7–12, 2021.
The Carlisle Downtown Mile is a fundraiser for Employment Skills Center’s adult education and training programs. All of our programs and classes are offered free of charge. These programs include adult basic education, GED preparation, English as a Second Language, and workforce development trainings such as Nurse Aide, Forklift and Computer training.
To view photos and read more about this year’s virtual race, please visit our Carlisle Downtown Mile Facebook page.
The Carlisle Downtown Mile is a one-mile USA Track and Field certified course on High Street in Carlisle, PA. The one-mile race begins at the Subway Car Wash near the corner of High and Orange Streets and ends near the corner of High Street and Court House Avenue. The race will begin at 6:00 pm with the first wave of runners. The last wave of participants will end at 7:00pm.
VIRTUAL – August 7-12
Last year, due to COVID, The Downtown Mile was a virtual race. There was wonderful participation so we are continuing the virtual race in addition to the day of race. This will allow those to participate who are more comfortable running virtually and also for those that live at a distance from Carlisle to be part of the 10th Anniversary Carlisle Downtown Mile. For the virtual race, you may walk, run (hop, skip, etc.) on our original course, around town, on a track, in the woods, on a treadmill, in the pool, or anywhere else you want to for one mile. You can do that anytime from Aug. 7 through Aug. 12. Then enter your time on RunSignUp. Results will be posted as the race progresses and the fastest time in each race category (age and gender, or team) wins bragging rights. We will use the honor system for reporting times. These times will not compete with the race day times on the High Street certified course. All participants will receive a 10th Anniversary Carlisle Downtown Mile race shirt.
Uploading Your Times
Participants will be able to record their time, track other racers, and challenge themselves. And remember, this is based on the honor system. No need to upload data to Strava or record your mile with a GPS. No one will be looking to DQ you. Once you are registered, you will be able to upload your time using the following steps:
Step 1: Make sure you are logged into RunSignUp (use the email you used to register).
Step 2: Click on the RESULTS then click on the blue box that says SUBMIT VIRTUAL RESULTS. Search for your name.
Step 3: Add your time and save your results. It might take a few minutes to update in the overall results but you can refresh the page and wait. That’s it! You are done.

HEAT TIMES AND ROLLING START FORMAT
Due to COVID circumstances at the time of race planning, the following format will be in place for the 2021 Carlisle Downtown Mile. In a rolling start the participants begin when they are ready within the below time frame. Fun run/walk participants will line up on the left side of the start area and proceed down the left side of High Street and not go through the finish line timing chute as they are not being timed. Competitive runners will line up on the right side of the start area and run down the right side of High Street going through the timing chute. All competitive runners will be chip timed providing times within age groups. The rolling start format is an attempt to reduce congestion at the start area. POST RACE ACTIVITIES
It is our intent to have our usual post-race activities: the Beer Garden, Kid’s Alley and the Awards Ceremony. However, what form they will take will be determined by COVID mitigation efforts. Our number one concern is to keep all associated with the 10th Anniversary Carlisle Downtown Mile safe. Further info will be emailed and posted on social media as we get closer to race day, August 12th.
In the event that our permission to have an in-person event is rescinded, the Carlisle Downtown Mile will become a total virtual race and we will not be able to give any refunds. You will still receive your 10th Anniversary Carlisle Downtown Mile race shirt. Thanks for your understanding during these difficult times.
Where is the race?
The 2021 Carlisle Downtown Mile is a one-mile run/walk down High Street in downtown Carlisle!
What are the run categories?
There are 5 different mile heats in the race schedule including nine different age categories, 5 different Team Challenge categories, and a Just for Fun Mile/Walk.
What is the Team Challenge all about?
Our team challenge is a great opportunity to have some friendly team competition with other organizations similar to yours. It is also a wonderful team building event due to the short distance of the race. Wear your organization t-shirts and let the community see you out there! The expanded team challenge categories are: Healthcare, Serve & Protect, Non-Profit/Government, Corporate/Business, and Education.
Each team may consist of three to five members. The fastest three team members’ times will be added together for a total team time. The team challenge is a great way to promote a friendly rivalry between departments of one organization or between various organizations.
Can I run just for fun?
Definitely!! That is what the Just for Fun/Walk is for. The Carlisle Downtown Mile wants to encourage everyone in the community to participate, including competitive runners, active seniors, veterans, and all members of the family.
