The one-mile race starts at the Subway Car Wash located at 900 West High Street in Carlisle and finishes near the intersection of West High and Pitt Street.
Race Day Schedule
5:30-6:15 pm – Registration & Race Packet Pickup at Race Start
6:25 pm – Just for Fun Walk/Run (will not be timed)
6:40 pm – Children ages 10 & under; Male/Female ages 11-13
6:50 pm – Male/Female 14-19
7:00 pm – Male/Female 20-29
7:10 pm – Male/Female 30-39 & 40-49
7:20 pm – Male/Female 50-59 & 60+
*Although running together, each age group will be timed separately
7:30 pm – Team Challenge
8:00 pm – Awards Presentation
† The Team Challenge consists of groups of 3-5 runners of any age who will compete together against other teams in 6 different categories. The fastest 3 runners’ times from each team with determine the winning team. First, second, and third place awards will be given in the overall Team Challenge. Within each Team Challenge category a first place award will also be given. Team Challenge participants are not eligible for individual Mile Run awards.
Our Team Challenge is a great opportunity to have some friendly competition with other organizations similar to yours. It is also a wonderful team building event. Wear your organization t-shirts and let the community see you out there! The Team Challenge categories include:

For your convenience, race packets will be available for pickup at Appalachian Running Company, located at 290 E. Pomfret St. in Carlisle from 11 am – 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 16th. If possible, we encourage you to pick up your packet prior to race day.
Awards and Post-Race Celebration for Kids and Adults
Awards will be presented after the race. All children 13 & under will receive a participation medal! We encourage everyone to stay and enjoy the party. Our celebration will feature a Beer Garden for adults ages 21 & up and activities for kids in Kids Alley! Special thanks to JFC Staffing for generously donating their space for the celebration this year!
**Wristbands and photo ID’s will be required for participants of legal age who wish to consume beer.
Where is the race?
The Carlisle Downtown Mile follows a one-mile USA Track and Field certified course on High Street in Carlisle. The one-mile race will begin at the Subway Car Wash at the corner of High and Orange Streets and end in front of the Santander Bank at 17 West High Street. All participants are responsible for getting to the starting line prior to their event heat. Please allow ample time to park and walk to the start.
What about parking?
Parking is available on several streets near the start line. Parking is available on South Orange Street, West Pomfret Street, Glendale Street, and Belvedere Street. In addition, parking is available at the Dickinson Park intramural fields (1200 block of Ritner Highway) and the Dickinson parking lot at 5 North Orange Street. Please DO NOT park in any of the business lots on the north side of the Ritner Highway (i.e.: Pizza Grill, Knisely’s, Beverage Express, etc.).
What are the run categories?
There are 9 different mile heats in the race schedule including seven different age categories, 6 different Team Challenge categories, and a Just for Fun Mile/Walk.
What is the Team Challenge all about?
Our team challenge is a great opportunity to have some friendly team competition with other organizations similar to yours. It is also a wonderful team building event due to the short distance of the race. Wear your organization t-shirts and let the community see you out there! The expanded team challenge categories are: Healthcare, Serve & Protect, Non-Profit/Government, Corporate/Business, Education, and Friends & Family.
Each team may consist of three to five members. The fastest three team members’ times will be added together for a total team time. The team challenge is a great way to promote a friendly rivalry between departments of one organization or between various organizations.
Can I run just for fun?
Definitely!! That is what the Just for Fun/Walk is for. The Carlisle Regional Medical Center Downtown Mile wants to encourage everyone in the community to participate, including competitive runners, active seniors, veterans, and all members of the family.
How is the race going to be timed?
All heats, except for the Just for Fun Mile/Walk, will be chip timed. The bib numbers will already have the timing chips attached to them and will be in your packet when you pick it up.
Please be aware that if you do not wear your bib race number for your heat, your time will not be recorded. In addition, please do not fold the number because it may damage the transponder.
How does the chip timing work?
Special electronic mats will be placed at both the start and finish lines. The chip will record your starting time and your finishing time. The finish line computer system then subtracts the starting time from the finish time and creates a “net time” or “chip time.” The chip timing method compensates for any lost time that runners in the back of the starting pack experienced at the starting line.
What prizes will be awarded?
All children ages 13 and under will receive a special participation medal. First, second and third place male and female winners will be award in the following categories: 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 & over. The top three teams in the Team Challenge will receive awards, as well as the top team in each category. No prizes are awarded for the Just for Fun Mile/Walk.
When and where is the awards ceremony?
Age division and team awards ceremony will be held following the conclusion of the last heat at Kids Alley. Runners’ times will be posted near the kids alley entrance as soon as they become available from the timing company. The complete race results will be posted on the Employment Skills Center’s website within 48 hours after the race. No awards will be mailed. If you are unable to stay for the ceremony, the awards can be picked up at the Employment Skills Center at 29 South Hanover Street during business hours.
What about the Post Race Party?
Please join us after the race and awards ceremony in the Beer Garden located in the JFC parking lot. Craft brews will be provided along with domestic beers. Beer is included for each participant who is of legal age to consume alcohol. Only race participants and volunteers will be allowed in the beer garden. Wristbands will be given out at the beer garden entrance to REGISTERED RUNNERS WITH A BIB ONLY. You must have your photo ID to receive a wristband and to enter the beer garden. Please be responsible – do not drink and drive!
Are there any portable restrooms available?
There will be portable restrooms at the start and finish line. PLEASE be respectful of the property owners in the area.
What if there is bad weather?
Carlisle Downtown Mile participants’ safety is the most important thing, and if any of the threatening weather conditions listed below are present the day of the event, the event may be canceled.
Threatening Weather Conditions
Carlisle Downtown Mile will be canceled if any of the following weather conditions exist at the designated start time of 6:25 pm: Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch, Thunderstorm/Electrical Storm, “Heavy” Rain, other major weather condition. Less threatening conditions may not cause the event to be canceled, but may cause the cancellation of post event activities to ensure participant, volunteer, and community safety.
Authority to Cancel the Event
The Race Director, in accordance with the city and the local law enforcement, has the authority to cancel the event. If threatening weather conditions force cancellation of the event, no refunds can be provided, since funds were already spent in preparation for race day.
